Despite political controversies during the First World War,there had been little recrimination between Turkeyand Gennanyafter de feat in 1918. Whatever emotional hostility remained in bothcountries was directed against the victorious Allied powers whichimposed humiliating peace tenns upon the vanquished. Underthese circumstances it was not difficult for the Weimar Republic toregain the friendship and contidence of Turkey.
