2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and Urban Development: Problems, Threats and Opportunities

Today, cities are home to about half of the world'spopulation and three quarters of its economic output. Especially in the last two decades, while the urban population of the world continues to increase rapidly, the environmental damage that started in cities and spread to other regions has reached an unprecedented level. Therefore, Sustainable Development Goals have been determined by the UN in order to control urban development and provide a healthy structure. The transformation envisaged by the Sustainable Development Agenda, which also forms part of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, requires attention to cities as a more sustainable center. Comprising a total of 17 main goals at the global level, goal number 11 of this agenda focuses on Sustainable Cities and Communities and aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. This goal is also a response to the claim that social development should start locally, and indicates that urban development will be the main driver of overall development.
