1974 KIBRIS BARIŞ HAREKÂTININ TÜRK-İNGİLİZ İLİŞKİLERİNE ETKİLERİ

Türkiye'nin 1974 yılında başlatmış olduğu Kıbrıs Barış Harekâtı 1950'lerden beri süre gelen Kıbrıs sorunu içinde Türkiye'nin diğer devletlerle olan ilişkilerini etkilemesi bakımından önemli bir yere sahiptir. Genelde bu harekâta Amerika'nın göstermiş olduğu sert tepki üzerine Türk-Amerikan ilişkilerinin olumsuz olarak etkilenmesi araştırmacıların bu alanda yoğunlaşmasına neden olmuştur. Hâlbuki Ankara'nın adaya karşı başlatmış olduğu askeri operasyon Türk-İngiliz ilişkilerini de önemli derecede etkilemiştir. Bu nedenle, bu çalışma operasyona İngiltere'nin gösterdiği tepkiyi detaylı bir şekilde incelemiş ve iki ülkenin bu süreçte takip etmiş oldukları politikaların ikili ilişkilerdeki etkisi üzerine analiz yapmıştır. Ayrıca, çalışmanın giriş bölümünde Kıbrıs sorununun başlangıcından itibaren Türk-İngiliz ilişkilerindeki yeri de ortaya konularak, 1974 askeri operasyonun ikili ilişkilere ne derece tesir ettiği konusunun daha iyi anlaşılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu açıdan, bu çalışma Kıbrıs sorununun başlangıcında bir nevi ortak politika takip eden iki ülkenin 1974 yılıyla birlikte çatışma aşamasına nasıl geldiğini göstermektedir.

The Effects of the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation on Anglo-Turkish Relations

The Cyprus Peace Operation conducted by Turkey in 1974 is an important event in the Cyprus problem, which has been continuing since 1950s, in terms of effecting Turkey's relations with the other states. In general, because of the Turkish-American relations were adversely affected after the American harsh reaction to this Turkish military intervention on the island researchers mainly focused on examining this point. However, this operation also affected Anglo-Turkish relations significantly. Therefore, this study investigated the British respond to this Turkish move in detail and made an analysis of the effects of the policies pursued by Ankara and London in this process on their relations. Also, in the introduction section of this study, the place of the Cyprus dispute in the course of the Anglo-Turkish relations since the beginning of the problem was presented in order to better understand the effect of 1974 military operation on the mutual relations between the two countries. In this respect, this study shows that how the two countries which were following the similar policies at the beginning of the Cyprus problem came into the brink of conflict by 1974.
