Bu çalışmada 19 Nisan 1938 günü saat 13:00'da merkez üssü Kırşehir (Akpınar) olan depremin kent ve kent halkı üzerindeki etkileri değerlendirilmektedir. Depremin merkezi Akpınar olmasına rağmen Yozgat, Ankara, Çorum ve Çankırı gibi çevre il ve ilçeler depremden etkilenmiştir. Kentte büyük bir yıkıma neden olan depremin ardından hükümetin bölgedeki hasar tespit çalışmaları ile yakından ilgilendiği görülmektedir. Tahribatın çok olduğu Akpınar ve çevresinde öncelikle hasar tespiti yapmak üzere uzman kişilerden heyetler oluşturulmuştur. Heyetler çalışmalarını kazalar ve köylerde yürütmüştür. Tespitlerini raporlar halinde ilgili bakanlıklara sunan heyetlerin detaylı çalışmaları, inşa edilecek yeni yerleşim alanlarının belirlenmesinde önemlidir. Çok sayıda yaralı olan depremde sayısal veriler birbirini tutmamakla birlikte insan kaybı yaklaşık 200'dür. Ülkenin ekonomik anlamda o dönemki imkânları göz önünde tutulduğunda ise maddi hasar devlet bütçesini sarsıcı niteliktedir. Depremin yıkıcı etkilerini gidermek için Sıhhat ve İçtimai Muavenet Vekâleti, Kızılay Genel Merkezi hasarın çok olduğu bölgelere yardımlar ulaştırmıştır. Depremin Kırşehir ve havalisinde yaşanan fiziksel etkileri ile birlikte bölge halkının yaşadığı sıkıntılar, yapılan yardımlar ve devletin afet bölgesindeki etkinliği Başbakanlık Cumhuriyet Arşivi'nde bulunan resmi evraklara ve dönemin gazetelerine yansımaktadır. Çalışma esnasında Süreli Yayınlardan, Başbakanlık Cumhuriyet Arşivi'nden yararlanılmıştır. Türk Kızılay Arşivi'nden ise 1938 yılı belgeleri henüz tasnif edilmediği için kısmen faydalanılmıştır

This study aims to investigate the impacts of the earthquake with epicenter of Kırşehir (Akpınar) in 19 April 1938 at 13:00 on the city and people of the region. Although the epicenter of the earthquake was Akpınar, neighbor provinces and districts such as Yozgat, Ankara, Çorum, and Çankırı were also affected by the earthquake. Following the earthquake having caused significant destruction in the province, it is seen that the government closely cared for the damage assessment works in the region. Firstly, the committees including experts were formed to conduct the damage assessments in Akpınar and the neighborhood where the losses were great. Committees performed their works in districts and villages. The detailed works of the committees which were reported to the ministries are crucial in determining the new construction sites. While there were significant numbers of injuries in this earthquake, the numerical data do not match with each other, although the loss of people was around 200. Considering the economic situation of the country at the time, material loss was critical for the state budget. To eliminate the demolishing impacts of the earthquake, Ministry of Health and Social Aids, The Red Crescent Society provided supports to the regions with the great losses. Together with the physical impacts of the earthquake on Kırşehir and the neighborhood, the problems of the people in the region, supports provided, and the activities of the State in the disaster area are present in the official documents in the Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry Archives and the newspapers of the day.
