HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF KEFKALESİ URARTIAN SETTLEMENT

Kefkalesi, Haldiei URU KURZiuquni (City of Haldi in Ziuquni Land) in Urartian, has been partly excavated during the archaeological excavations made between the years 1964 and 1974. Archaeological and philological studies have demonsrated that Kefkalesi had been built by Rusa, son of Urartian King Argišti, who has been reigned during 685-645 B.C. The aim and scope of this study is to take Kefkalesi in a historical frame by reanalysing settlement history of Kefkalesi, construction process, ethnicity of construction workers and significant buildings in the settlement. Ziuquni Land, that has been related with the region of Adilcevaz and historical geography of which goes back to first half of the XIII century B.C, gives important clues to determine the historical background of Kefkalesi
