İlkçağ Tarih Yazımının Batı Anadolulu Öncüleri: IILydialı Ksanthos

Günümüzde başlı başına bir bilim dalı olan tarih yazımı, önceleri yalnızca içinde yaşanılan anın olaylarını kayda geçirip bilgi aktarma uğraşı biçiminde oluyordu. Diişiince açısından yıllar siiren gelişme sonucu, kendi zamanlarına ilişkin olayları yazan Miletoshı Hekataios, Lydialı Ksantlıos, Lesboslu Hellanikos, Karyandah Skylaks, Lampsakoslu Klıaron ve Miletoslu Dionysios gibi yazarlar yerel tarihler yazmışlardır. Bunlardan biri olan Lydialı Ksanthos, "Lydiaka" (Lydia Tarihi) adlı eserin yazarıdır. Yazarın günümüze kalan fragmanları incelendiğinde onun öyküler, çoğu Hellenik olmayan lıalk masalları ve kırsal bölgelerin geçirdikleri jeolojik değişimleri anlatmaktan hoşlandığı ortaya çıkar. Bunun yanı sıra Ksanthos 'un, çağdaşı Heroclotos 'u etkilediği ve sonraki yüzyıllarda yaşayan tarih yazarlarına kaynak sağladığı göıiilür.

The Western Anatolian Pioneers of the Writing of History of the Antiquity: II- Xanthus the Lydian

Historiography, which has ııow becoıııe a fıeld of scholarly stııdy, was fornıerly an effort to nıerely register current eveııts and infornı the coıning generations through tlıe chronicles lıanded down. As a result of hunderds of years' developnıent in the method of tlıinking, there appeared the writers oflocal history amoııg whom were Hecataeus of Miletus, Xantlıus the Lydian, Hellenicııs of Lesbos, Scylax of Caryanda, Clıaron of Lampsacus and Dionysios of Miletus. Xaııtlıus the Lydian, vi'/fo was one of the writer of "The History of Lydia" (Lydiaca). A careful stııdy of the renıaining fragmerıts of the work meııtioned reveals tlıat the aıtthor etıjoyed telliııg tales most of whiclı were not Hellenic. and dealing witlı the geological alterations occuriııg in rural areas. The stıuly of the work, furtlıermore, reveals tlıat Xanthus of Lydia was deeply injluenced by his eontemporary Herodotus and provided the sııcceeditıg writer ofhistoıy witlı the material tlıey needecl.
