II. Abdülhamid Dönemi kitap diplomasisi

Bir devletin büyüklüğü ve itibarı yalnızca yüzölçümü, askeri gücü ve mali kapasitesi gibi somut faktörlerle değerlendirilemez. Bunların yanı sıra dünya bilim ve kültür hayatına katkı sunan bilimsel, sanatsal ve kültürel eserler de aynı oranda etkili olabilmektedir. II. Abdülhamid dönemi birçok toplumsal ve siyasi çalkantıların yaşandığı ve yaşatıldığı zorlu bir süreç olarak hatırlanmaktadır. Osmanlı Devleti’nin etki alanının daraldığı ve hatta beka sorununun tartışıldığı bu mücadele döneminde bir padişahın kültürel ve bilimsel gelişmeleri takip edebilmesi ve bilgi kaynakları bağlamında yabancı ülkelerle değişim ve hediyeleşme diplomasisini sürdürmesi oldukça önemlidir. Bu çalışmada, II. Abdülhamid döneminde yabancı ülkelerle yapılan karşılıklı bilgi kaynağı değişim ve hediyeleşmelerine ilişkin örnek arşiv belgeleri incelenmiştir. İncelenen bu arşiv belgeleri hangi ülkelerle ne tür bilgi kaynaklarının paylaşıldığı noktasında bizlere somut bilgiler sunarken, bu döneme ilişkin yapılan bilimsel tespit ve yorumlara da kaynaklık edebilmektedir. Bilim ve kültürün, siyaset ve diplomasi ile ilişkisinin de ancak bu tür belgesel çalışmalarla aydınlatılabileceği ise bu çalışmanın amaçları arasında sayılabilir

The greatness and reputation of a state can not be judged only by concrete factors such as surface area, military power and financial capacity. In addition to all these, scientific, artistic and cultural works contributing to world science and Doç. The era of Abdülhamid II. is remembered as a difficult course of time in which many social and political turbulences were experienced. As the Ottoman Empire's influence narrowed and even the survival problems were discussed, it was very important for the Sultan to follow the cultural and scientific developments and to maintain diplomacy of exchange and mutual gift giving in the context of information sources. In this study, archival documents related to mutual exchange of information and gifts with foreign countries during the period of Abdulhamid II., were examined. While these archival documents provide concrete information to us about the sources and types of information shared, they can also serve as a basis for scientific findings and interpretations made about this period. One of the aims of this study is the fact that the relationship between science and culture, politics and diplomacy can only be enlightened by such documentary studies
