Batı Anadolu'da Bizanslı Yerel Hâkimlerin Bağımsızlık Hareketleri (XII. Yüzyılın Sonları ve XIII. Yüzyılın Başlarında)

XII. yüzyılın sonları ve XIII. yüzyılın başlarında Bizans merkezî otoritesinin çökmesi sonucu Batı ve Kuzeybatı Anadolu'da Alaşehir, Menderes havzası, Sampson ve Paplılagonia gibi önemli merkezlerde Bizans yönetiminden bağımsız bir idare kurmak isteyen çeşitli yerel hâkimler ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu yarı bağımsız idarecilerden en önemlileri arasında Matıuel Mavrozonıes, Theodoros Maııkaphas ve Sabbas Asedenos'u sayabiliriz.. Hâkim oldukları bölgelerde bağımsız bir idare kurmak isteyen bu isyancılar, Selçukluların ve yerel halkın desteği ile Bizans yönetimini uzun süre ıığraştırmışlarclır. Nihayet iznik imparatoru I. Theodoros Laskaris zorlu bir mücadelenin ardından bu yerel hâkimleri itaat altına almayı başarmıştır.

Independence Movements of the Local Byzantine Governors in the Western Anatolia (during the last period of the 12th century and the first decade of the 13th century)

During the last period of the 12,h century and the first decade of the 13'h century the various semi-independent governors of important locations in the westerıı and north-\vestern Anatolia suclı as Philadelphia, the Meandric plateaıı, Sampson and Paplılagonia, cotısidered themselves absolved from loyalty to the Byzaııtine Emperor, since central adnıinistratioıı had collapsed (especially after the ojficial capital had passed into Frankish hands). Most important of these senıi-independent governors were Matıuel Mavrozonıes, Theodore Mangaphas and Sabhas Asedenos. These pretenders caused troııble for central government for a long time by supporting the Seljuks and tıative inhabitants of Anatolia. Eventually Emperor Theodore 1 Lascaris marıaged to subdue these pretenders after the forceful strııggle.
