The Siege of Kayseri Castle in 1651 and Kurd Mehmed Aga

ABSTRACT Though it had been within the boundaries of Ottoman State, not along the boundaries with the other countries, for the ancient ages, the Kayseri Castle preserved its significance. Since it was a kind of headquarters in which some official documents and also the treasure of the State were kept, the castles were one of the leading targets of the rebels in the course of history. In the period in which the Jelali rebellion was intensely keeping on, the public in Kayseri was badly affected with the revolt. Throughout this paper, the siege of Kayseri Castle, an important center in which some properties and monetary belonging to the voivode of Yenili were kept, by Kurd Mehmed Aga in 1651 and the effects of this uprising on the public in Kayseri has been discussed from an elaborate point of view.
