Manisa Mint: Reviews on its Structural Analysis and Function

After Turkish arrival, a new era which is not only limited with ethnic or cultural differences but also economic changes has started for Anatolia. Especially Silk Road trade added significant input to the economy of Anatolian Seljuk. The most characteristic feature of this change in economy is the beginning of minting money. This tradition has become an indicator of independence of all political formation which has been established after Anatolian Seljuk. Despite of this, our information about those minting places is very limited. There are only two Mint structures in the literature of Art History about early periods of Turkic presence in Anatolia: First, Aksaray Melik Mahmud Hankah (Mintage place) and the other, Manisa Mintage. This paper examines the function, architectural features and restitution proposals of the structure considered as a Mint in Manisa.
