Balıkesir, Kuva-yi Milliye Müzesi’nden II. Nikephoros Phokas (963-969) Dönemine Ait Nadir Gümüş Sikke “Miliaresion”
İmparator II. Nikephoros Phokas Makedonya Hanedanı üyesi olmamakla birlikte parlak askeri kariyeri sayesinde tahta geçmiştir. II. Nikephoros Phokas dönemine ait nadir basım gümüş sikke miliaresion ise Makedonya Hanedanlığı döneminde gelişen sanat üslubunun sikke tasvir tipolojisine getirdiği yenilik olarak dikkat çekmektedir. Nadir basım örneklerden olan gümüş sikke birimi miliaresion’un ön yüzünde yer alan imparatorun tasvirindeki tipolojik farklılık dönemin sanat üslubunda yaşanan gelişmelerle paralellik göstermektedir. II. Nikephoros Phokas’ın tahtta geçmesinin öncesinde ve sonrasında yaşanan siyasi ve kültürel gelişmeler gümüş sikke miliaresion eşliğinde incelenecektir.

A Rare Miliaresion of Nicephorus II Phocas from Balıkesir, Kuva-yi Milliye Museum
While Nicephorus Phocas was not a member of Macedonian Dynasty, he became emperor with the help of his brilliant military career. A silver coin, miliaresion which is a scarce mint of emperor Nicephorus II Phocas reign presents a new reflections of Macedonian art style on Byzantine coin iconography. This rare silver coin which is called miliaresion has different style of emperor representation on its obverse. This typological difference also displays parallelism with the art style of its era. Cultural and political developments which occured before and later of Nicephorus II Phocas sovereignty will be researched in company with this rare silver coin.
