Typographic Education in Hacettepe University, Facult of Fine Arts, Department of Graphic
Used by the Western world for almost three thousand years, Latin Alphabet has developed and changed during this process and has had an important role both technically and aesthetically in the fields of communication and graphic design. Adopted by a law in November 1928 and replacing the Arabic alphabet used by the society for communication for centuries, Latin alphabet has been the official alpha bet of The Republic of Turkey since then. In order to learn the correct use of the Latin alphabet, which is also a part of the education in graphic design, and to be able to come up with new aesthetic and cre ative approaches, it is essential to have a sound understanding of the place and importance of lettering and typography in the western culture. Such an understanding is possible only through "absorption," "evaluation" and "seeing" in the learning environment, not through copied applications. Since it is not possible to have opininons without being informed, theoretical background to be acquired through the I educational process will serve as a base for the aesthetic awareness and creative design.
