Heating degree-hour calculation for selected cities

In the present study, monthly and annual heating degree hour values were presented, which were calculated by using typical meteorological year data produced from long term (1989-2008) meteorological data. In calculation of heating degree-hours, nine different reference temperatures (17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 ve 25 oC) were used. Calculations were done for eight city centers (İstanbul, Ankara, Trabzon, Van, Diyarbakır, Adana, Sivas ve Denizli) representing distinct climatic regions of Turkey. In terms of annual heating degree-hour values, ranking of cities from the highest to the lowest was determined as Sivas, Van, Ankara, Diyarbakır, İstanbul, Trabzon, Denizli and Adana. Difference was established as high as 16.6 % in comparison with another study from the literature.
