CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC AND DOMESTIC TOURISM IN KYRGYZSTAN

Many areas of Kyrgyzstan’s economy, as well as the rest of the world, were not prepared for the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has also had a serious negative impact on the inbound tourism market, which has previously been marginalized from the domestic market. The pandemic has drawn the attention of many to the domestic tourism sector. In view of the above, the aim of this work is to study the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on domestic tourism in Kyrgyzstan. As the study is empirical, the questionnaire was the main data collection tool. The questionnaire was sent to more than 500 staff members of various types of entities rendering services in the Kyrgyz tourism market, of whom 129 respondents completed the questionnaire. The main conclusion drawn is that despite its objective limitations, the internal market of Kyrgyzstan has a certain potential for growth. During the pandemic, some tourism companies increased their average number of domestic tourists by 27.8%.
