Sıcak-soğuk testleri, ahşap yüzeylerdeki şeffaf vernik katmanlarının esnekliği veya ani sıcaklık değişikliklerine karşı dayanıklılığının önemli bir göstergesidir. Bu çalışmada, Doğu kayını (Fagus orientalis L.), çam (Pinus sylvestris L.) ve meşe (Quercus petreae L.) odunlarından hazırlanan örnek yüzeylerine selülozik, poliüretan ve akrilik vernikler uygulanmıştır. Örnekler -18 °C'de l saat süre ile bekletildikten sonra 50 °C'de 1saat bekletilmiştir. Bu süreç bir saykıl kabul edilmiş ve denemeler 20 saykılda tamamlanmıştır. Testler ASTM D -1211 esaslarına uyularak yapılmıştır. Örneklerde gözle görülebilen bir tahribat olmamıştır. Ancak, numunelerin tamamında sertlik kaybı olmuştur. Parlaklık bakımından ise, selülozik vernikli meşe örneklerde artış olurken, diğerlerinde azalma olmuştur.

The cold-check is the intication of the flexibility of clear varnish coating on wood or resistance to sudden temperature change. In this work, test samples were prepared by using beech (Fagus orientalis L.), pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and oak (Quercus petreae L.) wood,and cellulosic, polyurethane and acrylic varnishes were applied to the surface of sample panels. Samples were firstly kept at -18 °C for one hour and then moved to 50 °C temperature keeping for one hour. These process accepted for one cycle and tests continued to 20 cycles. Tests were carried out according to ASTM D-1211. There was no visible failure on the sample panels. But, all the sample panels lost some hardnesses. On the other hand, in the case of gloss measurement, the gloss of oak panels coated with cellulosic varnish was increased, but the others gloss were decreased.
