Calculation of Building Cooling Loads Using The Cooling Degree-Hour Method

In this study, outdoor air dry thermometer temperature data for 332,880 hours were obtained from the State General Directorate of Meteorology for every month, 24 hours per day, 8760 hours per year over the last thirty-eight years. This data set was transferred to three softwares developed with visual basic and then analyzed hourly for every 24 hours, frequency of external air temperature between any two time intervals and cooling degree hour values (CDHV) on a monthly and seasonal basis. According to the analysis results, the highest external air temperature incidence for 29°C in the cooling period was 105,624 hours in August on a monthly basis. On a seasonal basis, the lowest incidence was 0.84 hours for 44°C. The highest incidence of external air temperature for each month in the season was between 26-31°C and the seasonal incidence of this temperature interval was identified as 317.88 hours. With 24°C indoor reference temperature (IDRT) between 13.00-14.00 hours in the month of July, the CDHV was 115.1 CDH. Adding the CDHV for the two time intervals from 15.00-17.00 hours, a total of 404.6 CDH was estimated. Seasonally, the CDHV for these two time intervals were estimated to be 3972.6 CDH. When 24 °C is chosen as IDRT for the cooling period, the CDHV is 3972.6 CDH, while if 20 °C is chosen the CDHV is estimated to increase by 258% and if 28 °C is chosen the CDVH is estimated to reduce by 3,683%.
