Trafik, insan yaşamında yüksek katılımlı tehlike alanlarından biri olan, kendine özgü akış ve düzeni bulunan sistemli bir faaliyettir. Trafik aktivitesine katılmak için, sürücü, yaya, yolcu, araç ve seyir için belli kurallar öngörülmüştür. Bu kuralların başında da trafik işaretleri gelir. Trafiğin kontrol edilebilmesi için kullanılan işaretler, düzen, güvenlik, yöneltme, iletişim ve sorumlulukların belirlendiği genel fonksiyonlar ile her bir işaretin ayrı anlam içermesini sağlayan özel fonksiyonları vardır. Sürücüler, trafik işaretlerinden elde ettikleri bilgiler ile sürücülük deneyimlerini de birleştirerek en doğru kararı verirler. Eğer sürücüler, yol ile ilgili beklentilerini doğru bir şekilde karşılarlarsa yoldaki mevcut potansiyel tehlikeye karşı doğru ve etkin bir şekilde cevap verebilirler. Çalışmamızda, trafik işaretlerinin oluşumunu etkileyen faktörler konusu, fonksiyon değerlendirme formu haline getirilmiş ve uygulamada görülen hataları tespit etmek maksadıyla Ankara ilinde çalışma yapılmıştır. Örnekleme olarak yapılan çalışmanın sonucunda işaretlerin fonksiyon değerlendirme formu ile işlevlilikleri kontrol edilmiş ve üretimden yollardaki montajlarına kadar pek çok alanda sürücülerin algısını olumsuz etkileyen uygulamalar sebepleriyle birlikte açıklanmıştır. Sürücülerin faydalanması için kullanılacak her bir işaret için verilecek karar, trafik işaretinin fonksiyonunun tanımı üzerinden temel alınması gerekliliği vurgulanmaktadır.

Traffic is a systematic activity which is one of the most dangerous areas in human life with participation, and which has its own flow and order. Definite rules are suggested in order to participate in traffic activity for the drivers, the pedestrians, the passengers, the vehicles and the courses. Traffic signs are the most important of this rules.The signals have both general functions like, order, security, orientation, communication, responsibility and they have specific functions that provide each signal to have different meanings in order to control the traffic. Drivers can decide correctly, when they combine information obtained from traffic signals with their own experience. If drivers correctly meet their expectations related to the road, they can correctly and effectively respond against existing potential dangers on the road. In this study, issues effecting the formation of traffic signs has been transformed into a function evaluating format and has been studied in Ankara to determine the mistakes which can be encountered in the execution. At the end of the study which has been done by sampling method, functional evaluation format of signs and their usage have been checked and the implementations from production to usage level which negative can effect the sense of drivers negatively have been explained. It is emphasized that the decision for the usage of the traffic signs, has to be based on the definition of the functions the traffic signs
