Bu çalışmanın amacı, Celal Bayar Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi öğrencilerinin empati kurma düzeylerini ortaya koymak ve empati düzeylerin bazı değişkenlere göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini belirlemektir. Araştırma grubunu Celal Bayar Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Türkçe, Fen Bilgisi, Sosyal Bilgiler ve Sınıf Öğretmenliği lisans programlarındaki 1. ve 4. sınıf öğrencisi olan toplam 464 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Öğretmen adaylarının 212’ si (%45.7) kadın, 252’ si (%54.3) erkektir. Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 21.31’dir. Bu araştırma betimsel bir araştırmadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak 20 maddelik likert tipi Empatik Eğilim Ölçeği ve Kişisel Bilgi Formu kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonunda, çalışma grubundaki öğretmen adaylarının empati kurma düzeylerinin ortalaması 3.5 bulunmuştur. Bu düzeyin öğrencilerin ekonomik durumu, lisans programı ve kitap okuma sıklığına göre farklılık gösterdiği ortaya çıkmıştır.

The purpose of this research is to determine the levels of empathy of prospective teachers in terms of their department, gender, economic level, grade level and frequency of reading books (excluding text books). The research group consisted of 464 students (252 men, 212 women) at Celal Bayar University Faculty of Education. The mean age of all participants was 21.31 years of age. Forty-six percent of the sample were female and fifty-three male. Descriptive method was used for this research. For gathering data, Empatic Tendency Scale (Dökmen, 1988) and Personal Information Form was used. The results showed that emphatic levels of student were moderately. Statistical comparisons revealed that there was statistically significant difference in levels of empathy of prospective teachers according to their department, economic level and frequency of reading, excluding text books.
