Sanayi Devrimi sonrası yapılanan yeni ekonomik sistemde sanayi faaliyetleri ve uluslararası deniz ticaretinin etkin bir şekilde gerçekleştirildiği liman kentleri, Osmanlı Devleti’nde de ön plana çıkmışlardır. Ekonomik, sosyal ve kentsel boyuttaki değişimlerin gerçekleştiği bu yerleşimler aynı zamanda dünya ekonomisiyle bütünleşme sürecinin de taşıyıcısı olmuşlardır. Çalışma kapsamında ele alınan Ayvalık yerleşiminin 19.yüzyıl sosyo ekonomik yapısı ve kent dokusu, Osmanlı liman kentlerinin bu bütünleşme sürecine yönelik sosyo ekonomik ve mekânsal boyuttaki değişim/dönüşümleri değerlendirebilecek içerik sunmaktadır.

The Industrial Revolution have structured the new economic system. Then, the industrial activities and international maritime trade have started to occure effectively at the harbor cities of the Ottoman Empire, as if else where. These settlements have undergone some changes in economic, social and urban dimensions and have been the carrier of integration with the world economy at the same time. The socio-economic structure and urban fabric of the Ayvalık settlement in 19th century, discussed under this study, is an example of Ottoman harbor cities where we can observe the socio-economic and spatial changes and transformations in that integration process.
