Measuring the occurrence and types of workplace bullying in Turkey:A scale de velopment study

The aim of the present study was to develop a valid and reliable scale investigating the occurrence and types of workplace bullying in Turkey. The sample consisted of 908 employees from the services sector in Istanbul and the data were collected between March and June 2009 using a questionnaire developed for this purpose. Reliability and exploratory factor analysis were used. Exploratory factor analysis indicated that four factor scale comprising 28 items provided the best fit to the data tf (378)=10523.337, KMO=0.95, p=0.000). Reliability analysis showed that the scale had high internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha value=0,933). 13,5% of the participants were found to be the victims and 'work-relatedV and 'downward' workplace bullying were among the most frequently encountered types. Our findings reveal that "Workplace Bullying Scale - Turkey" is a valid and reliable scale for measuring workplace bullying and the findings support the use of the scale in future researches.
