“Mübhemâtü’l-Kur’ân”, klasik tefsir usûlünde Kur’an’da kapalı bırakılan, diğer bir deyişle açıkça anlaşılmayan bazı kelimeleri konu edinen bir ilim dalı şeklinde tarif edilmiştir. Kur’an’daki mübhem ifadelerin anlamlarını belirlemeye yönelik gayretlerin tarihini sahabe ve tâbiîn dönemine kadar uzanmakla birlikte, bu konuda ilk eser veren kişi, hicrî VI. yüzyıl alimlerinden Süheylî (ö. 581/1185)’dir. Kur’an’ın vahyedildiği kültürel ortama ilişkin bazı tarihsel materyaller sunmasının dışında büyük ölçüde önemsiz ayrıntıların tespitine dayalı olan bu ilim dalı, İslâm tarihinde değişik fırkalar tarafından istismar edilmiştir. Bu fırkaların başında ise, İmâmiyye Şiası gelmektedir. Kuşkusuz bunun arka planında da, imamet doktrinine meşruiyet zemini oluşturma gayreti yatmaktadır. Şia’ın bu konuda en sık başvurduğu Kur’ânî veriler ise, değişik anlamlar yüklemeye müsait olan mübhem kelimeler olmuştur.

The subject of incomprehensible in the Qur’an has been defined as follows in the science of classical methodology of the exegesis; “It is a kind issue which examine the unclear words”. We can trace the date of efforts which try to determine the meaning of these unclear words to the companions of the prophet Muhammad, but the first person who wrote a book in this issue is Suhayli (d. 581/1185) who lived in sixth century. Although this topic (mubhamat al-qur’an) presents in some historical data with regard to the cultural enviroments of period in which the Qur’an was revealed; it has also given a great deal of unimportant detail. It has also been abuse by the various sects, especially the sect of The Twelver Shi’a.
