Wear is a kind of damage caused by the removal of small particles from the surface of the material as a result of mechanical interaction. The amount of wear generally depends on several factors such as the kind of material, hardness of the metal sample and the abrasive material; the shape of the surface, and the effects of the physical and chemical environment. It is not possible to prevent the wear completely. The benefit of examining closely and finding out the factors that affect this case is to keep the wear at minimum level and reduce financial loss. In this paper, the abrasive wear of plain carbon steel which is caused by friction in an atmosphere suitable for nonmetal material wear has been examined. In examining this wear, hardness of metal sample which are highly influential on wear have been taken into consideration. Experiments have been done in order to find out the effect of this factor. In one of these experiments, the results through the use of designed wear machine have been stated, and Hardness Index has been formed after some statistical studies. It is examined that how changes wear quantity whit this index.
