Toplumsal kalkınmayı yönlendiren öncü kuruluşların başında gelen ticaret borsalarının ekonomi içinde oynadığı rol son yıllarda sık sık tartışılmaktadır. Türkiye’deki tarım sektörünün mevcut gelişmişlik düzeyi dikkate alındığında, ticaret borsalarının, hem sayısal olarak artış gösterdikleri, hem de fonksiyonel olarak ekonomik gelişime katkı sağladıkları görülmektedir. Gerek yıldan yıla artış gösteren işlem hacimleri gerekse kayıt dışı ekonomik faaliyetlerin kayıt altına alınması hususunda sağladıkları katkılar, ticaret borsalarının mevcudiyetini daha da önemli hale getirmektedir. Bununla birlikte, global ekonomide yaşanan hızlı değişim çerçevesinde ticaret borsalarının birleşerek güçlenmesi, laboratuar ve satış salonları gibi imkanların teknik olarak güçlendirilerek ortak kullanımına imkan sağlanması, tarımda verimliliği arttırıcı, işletmeler açısından modern ve ihtisaslaşmaya imkan verecek ölçek büyüklüğünü teşvik edici, kayıtdışı ekonomiyi önleyici ve ticaret borsalarının tercih edilmesini özendirici önlemler alınması, bu borsaların ekonomi içindeki etkinliğini arttıracak ve AB ülkeleri ile entegre olma aşamasında, Türkiye’deki ekonomik gelişime olumlu katkılar sağlayacaktır.

The role of commodity exchanges in the economy has been a highly debatable issue in Turkey during the last decade. Given the current structure of agricultural industry, the commodity exchanges provide benefits to the economic development by offering various facilities through an increasing number of places in the country. With their increasing trading volume, they contribute both to the prevention of unregistered transactions in the economy and to the collection of tax revenues. However, with the changing economic and technological environment in the world, the commodity exchanges are to change their policies to catch the new trends. To serve all parties effectively, they have to merge and develop their labs and auction floors with technical facilities. On the other hand, the government should urge institutions for the economies of scale and encourage all parties taking part in this process to trade in these exchanges so as to discourage over-the-counter market transactions. Provided that these steps are taken in a right manner, the agricultural industry may improve its structure and this may stimulate the economy prior to becoming a member of the European Union.
