Millenarianist Bir Hareket Olarak Montanizm

Montanism as a Millenarianist Movement

Montanism is a religious movement appeared in the second century and lasted about to the last of the fourth century. Montanus, a pagan priest before his conversion to Christianity is its founder. Montanism which was appeared in a village (Ardaban or Ardabau) of Phrygia is known as a millenarianist move-ment. Montanus and his two prophetesses Priscilla (or Prisca) and Maximilla have claimed that Jesus is going to return and establish the heavenly New Jeru-salem in the town of Pepuza in Phrygia. The ideal of them was to dissociate the Church from the world and to form a community of true saints who should reject all secular ties and await the near approach of the Second Advent (Parosuia). Several synods were assembled by the Christian leader of Asia Minor against the Montanists to stop the spread of the movement. However, Montanism as a heretical sect continued to survive until the fourth century in Roma and Anatolia and even to the sixth century in North Africa, Carthage.
