TURKISH, KYRGYZ AND RUSSIAN PARENTS CHILD-REARING ATTITUDES: CROSS-CULTURAL COMPARISON

Every child is born into a cult and raised by parents who are cultural representatives. There are similarities in parenting attitudes of parents of each society, which are shaped by the influence of cultures more than individual differences. The aim of this research is to identify the differences and similarities in the childrearing attitudes of Turkish, Kyrgyz and Russian parents, who are geographically and culturally close. For this purpose, 394 Kyrgyz, 89 Turkish and 138 Russian parents living in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan were reached. In the study, parental attitude scale developed by Demir and Şendil, in which reliability and validity studies of Kyrgyz and Russian forms were conducted for this research, was used. In the study; it was found that parents who represent three cultures showed more similarities in discipline and more differences in democratic attitudes. In the bilateral comparisons made, democratic attitudes of Turkish parents from Kyrgyz and Russian parents; it has been observed that Kyrgyz and Russian parents score higher than Turkish parents in the dimension of tight and loose discipline
