The Relationship between Saving and Current Account Deficit in Turkey

In this study, the effect of saving rate on current account deficit was analyzed by using Johansen Cointegration test in Turkey for the period of 1975-2016 through interest rates and investment data. To that end, the stationary of the series and the causality relationship among series were analyzed by Kapetanios’s (2005) multiple structural break unit root test and Hatemi-J (2012) an asymmetric method. According to the findings, it was observed that there is negative relationship between savings and current account deficit. In addition, it was seen that series were acting together in the long run; discharged short-term aberration, and converged to the long run equilibrium levels. These findings suggest the existence of the causality relationship between series and that analyzes are reliable.
