Artificial neural network control of rotor wound asynchronous generator driven by wind energy

Wind Energy is an environmental friend and renewable energy source. Wind energy getting importance recently to meet the continuously rising energy demands. Wind energy conversion systems are affected by the weather climatic conditions. Sudden changes in wind speed may cause some unwanted mechanical or electrical damages, therefore it is necessary to supervise produced power curve continuously. Pitch control – opening and closing of blades along their longitudinal axes -is the most efficient and popular power control method especially for variable-speed wind turbines. Modern high-power wind turbines are capable of adjustable speed operation. Most popular wind turbine generators are induction generators. They are cost-effective, appropriate for variable speed operation and simple structure. In this study, an artificial neural network-based controller has been designed for the control of variable speed wind turbine systems. Artificial Neural Network is a multilayer network and it has two inputs, one output and includes 5 neuron in its hidden layer. In the control algorithm, tangent hyperbolic function has been used for the Artificial Neural Network.
