Osmanlı toplum yapısı içinde 19.yüzyılda ortaya çıkan zeybekler, o dönem insanının ilgiyle izlediği “Karagöz”-gölge oyunlarına da yansımış ve bu oyunlar içinde “efe” ve “zeybek”lere yer verilmiştir. Oyunlardaki zeybek, iri cüssesi ve kendine özgü giysisi, konuşması ile dikkati çeker. Asıl amacı güldürmek olan bu gölge oyununda “zeybek” ve “efe” de diğer tipler gibi, çeşitli yönlerinin abartılmasıyla seyirciyi eğlendirmeyi başarmıştır
