Determination of Normal ADC Values with Diffusion Weighted Imaging of Adrenal Glands
Objective: We aimed to establish the normative apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of adrenal glands in healthy subjects.Material and Methods: Twenty-five healthy subjects without any endocrine and adrenal disorders were involved in this retrospective study. Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) sequences were acquired at a 1.5 T scanner using b values of 0.800 s/ mm2. ADC values were measured pixel-by-pixel on DW-MRI scans, and automatic co-registration with the ADC map was obtained. ADC values were measured for each adrenal gland twice with an avarege ROI of 21.4 mm2.Results: Mean ADC values for the right adrenal glands were 1.33±0.2x10-3 mm2/s and 1.29±0.3x10-3 mm2/s (mean 1.31± 0.25x10-3 mm2/s) respectively. Whereas, for the left adrenal gland 1.3±0.2x10-3 mm2/and 1.3±0.2x10-3 mm2/s (mean 1.3±0.2x10-3 mm2/s) was found respectively. The mean ADC values were statistically documented. Conclusion: Our results establish the normative data for the adrenal glands using DWI. This data may be additive for the diagnosis of indeterminate cases such as mild hyperplasia or other diffuse diseases of the adrenal gland.
