II. Abdülhamit ile Amerikan protestan misyonerlerinin eğitim mücadelesi: Amerika'ya kaçırılan Nusayri kızları

II. Abdülhamit, imparatorluğun doğu ve Arap vilayetlerindeki Aleviler, Yezidiler, Dürzîler ve Nusayriler gibi Sünni İslamın dışındaki Müslüman topluluklarını siyasal ve sosyal müdahalelerle ümmet çatısı altında toplamayı hedeflemiştir. Abdülhamit bu amaçla okullar açmak, dini eserler ve Kuran dağıtmak gibi yollara başvurmuştur. Protestan misyoner okullarının heteredoks gruplar üzerindeki olası etkilerini en aza indirmek için Sünnilik propagandası yapan gezici nasihat heyetleri görevlendirmiştir. Bu çalışmada, 1882de açılan Mersin Amerikan Protestan Kız Mektebinde okuyan Osmanlı tebaasından Nusayri kızların, okulun kurucusu Dr. David Metheny tarafından Amerikaya kaçırılma hikâyesi üzerinden tarafların bu mücadeleye bakışı ele alınmaktadır.

Educational struggle between Abdulhamid II and American protestant missionaries: Nusayris Girls kidnapped to the united states

Abdulhamid II, by means of political and social interventions, aspired to gather the Muslim groups other than the Sunnite Muslims, such as the Alawites, Yezidis, Druzes, and Nusayris in the Eastern and Arab provinces of the Empire under the roof of ummah. To this end, Abdulhamid opened schools, distributed religious works, and Quran. With an aim to mitigate the possible influence of the Protestant missionary schools on the Alawites, Yezidis, Druzes, and Nusayris, he commissioned traveling advice delegations that promoted Sunnism. In this study, the parties outlook on this struggle is discussed over the kidnapping of the Nusayri girls under the Ottoman rule, who attended to Mersin American Protestant Girls School that was founded in 1882, by Dr. Metheny, the founder of the school, to the United States.
