IDENTIFICATION OF FACTORS AFFECTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF UNIVERSITY SPIN-OFF COMPANIES IN TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT ZONES: THE CASE OF TURKEY

In today's world where the global competition is increasing, technology and innovation have become an indispensable condition for achieving a stable economic growth. In this context, knowledge needs to be commercialized with research and development activities in order to generate of innovation and technology. Technology Development Zones (TDZs) and University Spin-off Companies (USOs) play an important role in generating innovation and/or transferring technology on the way to commercialization of knowledge. The main aim of this study is to determine the factors affecting establishment of USOs located in Turkish TDZs. For this purpose, the research model based on the related literature has been tested using Logit Regression Analysis for USOs operated in 32 Turkish TDZs. According to the obtained results; operating period of TDZs, the number of personnel working in in the TDZs and the increase in R&D expenditures in the short term have positive effect on the possibility of the establishment of USOs companies.
