Üstün Yetenekli Öğrencilerde Beklenmedik Başarısızlık

Yetenek ve zekâsı üstün olarak nitelendirilen öğrenciler için düşük performans ve düşük akademik başarı beklemek ironiktir. O yüzden üstün zekâ ve yeteneğin, üstün akademik başarı ve performans getirmesi gerektiğinin düşünülmesi yaygın bir kanıdır. Ancak maalesef Üstün zekâ ve yeteneğe sahip öğrencilerle ilgili yapılan araştırmalara bakıldığında,% 50 ye varabilen oranda bu durumu yaşadıkları görülmektedir. Elbette ki bu oran küçümsenmeyecek kadar büyüktür. Son yıllarda üstün zekâ ve yeteneklilerin eğitimiyle ilgili çalışmalar artmıştır. Ancak hala bu duruma mutlak bir çözüm bulunacak kadar yeterli değildir. Eğitimciler genel olarak beklenmedik başarısızlık gösteren üstün zekalı-yetenekli öğrencileri tembel, davranış problemlerine sahip, motivasyon eksikliği olan öğrenciler olarak görmektedirler. Bu çalışma da beklenmedik başarısızlığın tanımını, yaygınlığını, beklenmedik başarısızlık gösteren üstün yetenekli öğrencilerde buna neden olan sebepleri ve çözüm yollarını incelemek, öğretmenlere ve ailelere ve literatüre katkı sağlamak amacı güdülmüştür.
