SHARENTING AND CHILDREN’S RIGHT TO BE FORGOTTEN

The term sharenting refers to the act of parents who overshare about their children on the Internet in an identifiable manner to reach a mass audience. Sharenting is a global phenomenon that is visible in Turkey, and it is argued that it poses a threat to children’s rights. This article reviews literature on why parents post about their children on social media and its adverse impacts on children. The study proposes legal solutions and gives advice to the related stakeholders. Children’s right to be forgotten—one of the legal solution suggestions—is discussed in both theory and practice in the study.
