Antioxidant Enzyme, Phenolic Substance and Plant Nutrient Contents of Malva sylvestris L. and Alcea rosea L. Species Used as Medicinal Plants

It is of great importance to know the antioxidant, phenolic and nutrient content of medicinal and aromatic plants in order to evaluate different usage areas. For this purpose, antioxidant enzyme activity and total antioxidant, phenolic substance and plant nutrient content of Malva sylvestris L. and Alcea rosea L. plants of Malvaceae family were determined in this study. As a result of the study, the highest peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and ascorbate peroxidase (AxPOD) enzyme activity were measured in Alcea rosea L. species. Total carotenoid and total phenolic substance amount were higher in Alcea rosea L. species than Malva sylvestris L. species. When the nutrient content of the plants is evaluated, the highest N, P, Na, Fe and Mn amount were determined in the Alcea rosea L. species, and the highest K, Ca, Mg, Zn and Cu amount were determined in the Malva sylvestris L. species. According to these results, it is determined that Alcea rosea L. species, which is rich in antioxidant, phenolic substance and total carotenoid amounts and some plant nutrient amounts, has higher usage potential in different areas.
