Pediatric Miyocardial Protection

The basic principles of the protection of myocardium with diastolic electromechanical arrest, ventricular decompression and hypothermia purpose of providing an environment bloodless and safely extend the duration of myocardial ischemia. Pediatric cardiac surgery as well as Adult cardiac surgery, inadequate protection of the myocardium is an important cause of morbidity and mortality. Myocardial protection is a complex procedure and applied with surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and perfusionist. Features of pediatric heart and its preservation are discussed in this article.
