The Investigation of Lower Limb Anthropometric Measurements of Aged Between 18-22 Çukurova University Students According to Gender
Objective: In this paper it was aimed to be determined of lower limb anthropometric measurements with
indexes and investigated of relationships between measurements at students (50 females and 40 males) in
Cukurova University aged 18-22 years.
Material and Methods: Anthropometric measurements and indexes of lower extremity were taken from 90
students (50 females and 40 males) who are studying in Cukurova University. In our study, Demographic data
(age, weight, height, gender and body mass index-BMI), the length measurements of lower extremity, the
circumference measurements of waist, hip, thigh, leg and foot breadth were taken. Measurements were made
with sliding caliper, digital bascule, stadio meter and non-elastic tape measure. From these measurements,
the ratio of lower limb, thigh and leg length to height, the ratio of leg length to lower limb length, the ratio of
waist circumference measurement to hip circumference measurement, crural and foot indexes were calculated.
SPSS 20.0 were used in this study. Minimum (min.), maximum (max.), mean and Standard deviation (SD)
values were obtained. The study was approved by the Instution’s Ethics Commity.
Results:According to the result of measurements performed in students, While body weight, height, BMI, ratio
of lower limb to height, the ratio of thigh lenght to height, the ratio of leg length to height, the ratio of thigh
length to lower limb length), the ratio of leg length to lower limb length, the ratio of waist circumference
measurement to hip circumference measurement and foot index values were greater than in males than in
females, only crural index and thigh circumference values were greater than in females than males.
Conclusion: All values (except crural index and thigh circumference) were found greater in males than females
when we compared our findings with those in the national and international literature and assessed them in
results of our study. Moreover, it is thought that the values obtained in this study can provide beneficial
information for studies about ergonomic design and anthropometric database.
