J>ECHENEGS-HUNGARJAN RELATIONS AND THE PECHENEGS IN THE WORKOFA.P.HORVATH

Pechenegs, who lived near lsstk lake and /Jalkas lake i11 the middle of Viii centwy. are shown as the 19th of 22 Oghuz clans. Constantin Porphyrogenetus, in chapter 37 of De Administrando lmperio, described "the region between /ti/ (Volga) and /eik-Yaytk (Ural)" 11eighbori11g the lands occupied by Khazar and Ogh11z as the old homeland o.f Pechenegs. Events after the break up of Gok-Turk Khaga11ate as a result o.f Chinese intrigues caused Peche11egs to migrate towards west. i11 other words. into the regions near the Khazar Empire. During IX. and X. Centuries, they se/1/ed i11 western side of Volga River firstly and then i11 the geography of Central and Eastern Europe. /11 tliis st11dy, examining western and domestic sources we will try to give how the Peche11egs settled i11 European geography and their relations with Hungarians.
