Genetically Modified Crop Oils and Their Properties (Turkish with English Abstract)

Nowadays, with the development of genetically engineering in agricultural applications, it is possible to determine the fatty acid composition of crop oils by genetic modifications. The production of vegetable oil throughout the world is about 87 million metric tons. The value of this production is 40 billion US Dollars. Besides their importance in human nutrition, fatty acids from vegetable oils are also used as raw material for soap, detergents, grease, bio-fuels, cosmetics and paint industries. Thus, there is a recent interest on vegetable oils. In addition, the excess amounts of vegetable oil production can be used as an alternative to petroleum.
