Şizofreni hastalarında beyindeki yapısal değişikliklerin yaşla ilişkisi

Amaç: Bu çalışmada şizofreni hastalarının beyinlerindeki santral ve kortikal değişimlerin yaşla ilişkisinin araştırılması amaçlandı. Yöntem: Çalışmaya şizofreni tanısı konan 53 hasta ile radyodiyagnostik bölümüne bilgisayarlı beyin tomografisi (BBT) çektirmek için başvuran ve BBT'leri normal olarak değerlendirilen 40 kişi (kontrol grubu) alındı. Hasta ve kontrol grubunun 3.ventrikül (3.V), lateral ventriküller (LV), Silvian fissürler ve sulkusların genişlikleri BBT ölçümleriyle karşılaştırıldı. Bulgular: Kontrol grubunda yaş ilerledikçe 3.V, LV, Silvian fissürler, sulkus genişlikleri ve 3.V/beyin oranının anlamlı ölçüde arttığı bulundu. Hasta grubunda ise sol Silvian fissür genişliğinde artma dışında, yaşla uyumlu değişiklik bulunmadı. Kontrol grubunda santral ve kortikal değişimler yaşla ilişkili bir artış gösterirken şizofrenik hastalarda yaşla ilişkili değişim saptanmadı. Sonuç: Bu bulgular şizofreninin etyopatogenezinde organik görüşü destekler yöndedir.

The relation of structural brain changes and age in schizophrenic patients

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relation of changes in central and cortical brain areas with the age of the schizophrenia patients. Methods: Fifty-three schizophrenic patients and 40 controls those admitted to radiodiagnostic department for computerized brain tomography (CT) and evaluated as normal were included in the study. Third ventricle (V), lateral ventricles (LV), Sylvian fissures and sulcus enlargement of the both groups were compared with CT measures. Results: It was found that the width of 3rd V, LV, sulcus and Sylvian fissures and 3rd V/hemisphere ratio were increasing with age in the control group. There was no significant difference in schizophrenia patients except the increase of left Sylvian fissure width with age. Central and cortical atrophic changes were found to be related to age only in the control group. Conclusion: These findings seem to be supporting the organic etiology of schizophrenia.
