Logistik regresyon analizi sonucunda doğum kontrol yöntemi kullanmayanların (OR: 2,27, % 95 GA: 1,24-4,16) ve korunmasız cinsel ilişki sonrası acil kontraseptif yöntemi kullanmayanların (OR: 2,45, % 95 GA: 1,19-5,06) acil kontrasepsiyon bilgisizliği yönünden risk grubunda oldukları saptanmıştır.

Knowledge and practices of emergency contraception of women who apply for induced abortion policlinic

Objective: The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge and practices of women about emergency contraception. Methods: The study was conducted as a descriptively survey of 18-49 years women. The study was carried out on 224 women requesting induced abortion at one hospital in the city of Konya, in Turkey. Data were collected by a researcher with face to face interview in induced abortion policlinic between March and May 2008. Results: It was found out that 29,9% of the women has known about EC but only 17,4% of women has used contraceptive method after unprotected intercourse. According to the results of the logistic regression analysis, don’t use of contraceptive method (OR: 2,27, 95% CI: 1,24-4,16) and don’t use contraceptive method after unprotected intercourse (OR: 2,45, 95% CI: 1,19-5,06) were found to constitute risks in knowledge about EC. Conclusion: As a result most of the women didn’t know about EC and didn’t use to any contraceptive method after unprotected intercourse. These results suggest that including information on emergency contraception in consultations with users of contraceptive method is a small step which health professionals could take to increase the use of emergency contraception.
