Çocuklar cisimleri, eşyaları, yüzeyleri ve hacimleri oyun kanalıyla tanırlar. Oyun türleri çocuklar tarafından yaratılır. Bu sebeple oyun sahalarının, çocuğun eğitimi ve şahsiyetinin gelişmesinde önemli etkileri vardır. Bu sahalar yüksek yoğunluklu yerleşmelere ve çevre kirlenmesine de çözüm getirirler. Oyun sahası tasarımı iki grupta sınıflanabilir. Birinci sınıfı alışılmış düzenleme oluşturur. Bu düzenlemede ekipmanlar tek tek yerleştirilirler: Tahterevalliler, kaydıraklar, salıncaklar, tırmanma merdivenleri vb. İkinci sınıfı ise bağlantılı sistemler oluşturur: Macera parkları ve bağlantılı oyun sahaları. Bu tip tasarımda öğrencilerin kendi oyun sahalarını yaratmaları beklenir.

Children discover things, substance, surface, and space by means of play. Play also is an activity which is created by children. So that children playgrounds have an important role for the improvement of personality and education of children. At the same time, these places bring solutions in high density settlements to air pollution and environmental problem. We can classify approaches to playground design into two groups. The first is the traditional organization in which play equipments are placed on the place one by one. In this kind of design equipments are provided like jumping, slides, swing, climbing etc. The other approach is the linked system. It is also divided two parts, one is the adventure park and the other is the linkedplayground. Instead of placing single play materials, connecting them and pulling children inside the game is an aim of the design. Adventure parks encourage children to create their own playground by themselves. Children playgrounds are not to be a left place next to the parcel lots. It most be considered at the beginning of designing a neighborhood. Classification of children playground, on the basis of age groups is not sufficient. It most be noticed the regional characteristics in an heterogeneous community. Changing community life sosyo-economic differences and weather factors have an important role in the children playground design.
