Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nde Çocuk Müzeleri: Miami Çocuk Müzesi Örneği

Öncelikle çocukların gelişimini temel alan, oyun ve keşfetme yoluyla öğrenmeye öncelik tanıyan; çocukların yaşadıkları çevreye, parçası oldukları dünyaya tanıklık etmelerini sağlayacak bilgi ve materyalleri araştıran, inceleyen ve bunları kuşaklararası bir anlayışla çocukların, gençlerin ve yetişkinlerin eğitimi amacıyla teknolojiden faydalanarak sergileyen ve bu sergilerle ilgili etkinlikler oluşturan çocuk müzelerinin sayısı dünyada son 30 yılda hızla artmıştır. Doğa tarihi, sanat, tarih ve arkeoloji konularını etkileşimli sergiler yoluyla ziyaretçilere aktaran bu yeni nesil müzeler, “nesneden çok, kişi için müze oluşturmak” fikrinin benimsenmesine de katkı sağlamıştır. Kişi için oluşturulan bu yeni müzeler, çocuklara zengin öğrenme ortamları sunmak, etkileşimli sergiler ve öğretim programları tasarlamak, oyun yoluyla öğrenmeye öncelik vermek, hayal gücünü geliştirici ve yaratıcı etkinliklere ağırlık vermek, çocukların keşfetme güdülerini artırmak, sergileri aile etkileşimini ve kuşaklararası işbirliğini geliştirecek içerikler hazırlamak ve çok kültürlülük – kültürel çeşitlilik temalarını çocuklarda farklı kültürlere ilişkin olumlu tutumlar geliştirmek amacıyla varlıklarını sürdürmektedir. Bu çalışma Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’ndeki çocuk müzelerini kuruluş felsefeleri, tarihçeleri, tanımları, görev ve amaçları, sürekli ve geçici sergileri, müze atölyeleri ve sosyal programlarıyla tanıtmaktadır. Araştırmacı tarafından Miami Çocuk Müzesi’nde gerçekleştirilen araştırma sonuçları da çalışmaya eklenmiştir.

CHILDREN’S MUSEUM IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: THE INSTANCE OF MIAMI CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

The number of children’s museums, where are places that encourage curiosity and sitimulate learning while bringing families and children together in a new kind of town square where play inspires life long learning, have increased rapidly in the last 30 years. Children’s museums are primarily based on the development of children, give priority to learning through play and discovery through technology, hands-on exhibits and interactive museum activities related to museum’ exhibitions. These new age museums, where visitors could find interactive exhibitions through natural history, history, archeology and arts are established for individuals rather than the objects and contributed the idea of contemporary museums. These new museums which are established for individuals provide rich learning environments develop interactive exhibitions and learning programmes, encourage children to explore through games and play, support the activities which develop creativity and imagination abilities of children, improve the motivaion of exploring, prepare contents which can develop intergenerational family interaction and co-operation and motivate children to develop positive attitutes about different cultures and cultural diversity. This study focuses on children’s museums in the United States of America and their organizational structures, philosophies, historical backgrounds, descriptions, missions and objectives which are related to museums’ permanent and temporary exhibitions and several were also included in the study.
