Evaluation of operation of sludge processing units of Elazığ city wastewater treatment plant

In this study, sludge treatment units of Wastewater Treatment Plant of Elazığ were observed and evaluated. Some problems observed in both construction and operation of units and solution suggestions have also been given. pH and alkalinity in the primary sedimantation sludge varied in the range of 6.21-8.08 and 499- 773 mg CaCO/L, respectively. BOD , COD and grease and oil were found between 460-1400 mg/1, 720-4160 3 5 mg/1 and 110-540 mg/1, respectively. Temperature varied in the range of 12.8-22.7 °C according to season. Total dry solids and volatie solids varied in the range of 0.121-0.675% and 49.7-70.5%, respectively. Total dry solids and volatile solids of unthickened and thickened sludge were found in the range of 0.22-0.69% and 0.41-1.07%, 55.8-77.71% and 23.29-72.97%, respectively. It was observed that solids content of sludges was low according to literature and project values. Sludge volume index of activated sludge was found between 101.5 and 316 ml/g. pH, temperature and dissolved oxygen in aerobic sludge digestion tank varied in the range of 7.38-8.23, 7.7-23.1 °C and 0.14-3.0 mg/1, respectively. Suspended solid and volatile suspended solid were found between 1960 and 9320 mg/1 and between 1220 mg/1 and 6470 mg/1, respectively.
