Evaluation of Cases with Rabies Risky Contact
Aim: In our study, it is aimed to evaluate the cases that admitted to Elazig Harput State Hospital Infectious Diseases Outpatient Department for contact with an animal under risk of rabies between 2013-2014. Materials and Methods: The research data includes the evaluation of 151 Rabies risky contact claim records retrospectively. For statistical analysis, SPSS 22.0 packaged software was used and p<0.05 has been accepted meaningful for all statistical data. Results: Of all cases, Ninety-nine cases (65.6%) were male, 52 (34.4%) cases were female, and average age is 33.67±21.17. In our study, it is observed that most of the cases about contact with an animal under risk of rabies consist of 0-15 age group children and mostly in the summer months. Of all risky contacts, 58.3% were dogs and 27.2% were cats. For most of the cases (86.1%) prophylactic vaccine program was applied. For 112 (74.2%) of them 5 dosage and 16 (10.6%) of them 3 dosage protective vaccines were applied. Besides, for 89 of the cases (%59), equine rabies immunoglobulin was applied. None of the 151 cases resulted with rabies progression. Conclusion: Rabies still maintains its importance in our country. Animal owners should be informed about rabies, they should be warned to be sensible about not missing periodical vaccines of the animals and abandoned animals should be under control of municipalities.
