Yutma ve solunum gibi yaşamsal fonksiyonlarının yanında larenks, insan sosyal yaşamının önemli bir fonksiyonu olan fonasyonda da önemli bir rol oynamaktadır. Total larenjektomiden sonra yutma ve solunum fonksiyonları önemli rölçüde korunurken fonasyonda önemli bir değişiklik olmaktadır. Ses restorasyonu için değişik cerrahi ve reedükasyon teknikleri uygulanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada 34 total larenjektomili hastaya özofagus sesi reedükasyonu uygulanmış ve 12 hastada iyi, 8 hastada kabul edilebilir özofagus sesi elde edilmiştir. Özofagus sesi reedükasyonu tekniğinin temel prensipleri de ayrıca tartışılmıştır.

Besides the vital functions such as respiratory and deglutition, larynx plays an important role in the phonation. After the total laryngectomy there happens important modifications in these functions and the most disturbed function is the phonation. Many surgical and reeducation techniques are use for the voice restoration. In this study, oesophageal voice reeducation has been applied to 34 laryngectomised patients. A good oesophageal voice has been obtained in 12 of these patients and 8 of them had a moderate oesophageal voice after the reeducation. The main principles of the oesophageal voice reeducation techniques have also been discussed.
