Rare tumors mimicking colorectal carcinomas

Aim: Colorectal Cancers (CRC) are the most common tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. Almost all of the CRC is adenocarcinoma and other malignant lesions of the gastrointestinal tract holds approximately 2% of the whole. In the instutes where have higher numbers of surgical procedures, probability of seeing non-adenocarcinoma patients more possible than other institues. Material and Methods: In this article, 495 patients' datas who were operated with estimated CRC between 2003-2006 were evaluated retrospectively and 21 patients' datas with non-adenocarcinoma diagnosis were reviewed. Results: In the recent years, colonic lesions gets relatively more identified with gradually increasing availability of endoscopic procedures and radiological examinations. Conclusion: Suspicious findings and advanced age makes the clinician to think the diagnosis of malignancies in the first places. In the setting of diagnostic procedures fail to identify the primary pathology the overwhelming weight of surgical intervention decision is on the shoulders of the clinician and surgical resection is sometimes inevitable.
