Echocardiographic evaluation of the effects of different hormon replacement therapies on left ventricular systolic function

In this study,we compared the effects of different hormon replacement therapy(HFIT) methods on(Conjugated equine estrogen+Medroxyprogesteron acetate vs. tibolon) natural menopause patients who admitted to obstetrics and gynecology clinic of İzmir Atatürk Education and Research Hospital. In order to evaluate the systolic function we used echocardioraphy before starting HRT. Initial data were compared after echocardioraphic findings of three months later. No significant difference was found in EF(Ejection Fraction) values in CEE group (p>0.05). A statistically significant increase was observed in ejection fraction only in tibolon group. At the end of our study,a mild increase was found in echocardiographic parameters in response to different HRT methods.Incerase in left ventricular filling is the most important of HTR effects on the heart. This mild effect may not result in a prominent clinical improvement because of the short duration of our study. But,we believe that the clinical improvement might be more evident when long-term therapies are used.In spite of our findings new randomized prospective studies are needed in order to evaluate cardioprotective effects of HRT.
