UNDERWATER DIVING MOTIVATION: EVALUATION IN TERMS OF DEMOGRAPHIC AND EXPERIMENTAL FEATURES

Turkey, despite having a significant potential for underwater diving can not see the attention it deserves from it. This is thought to be due to a lack of understanding of the needs of underwater divers. Diving motivation plays an important role in understanding the target market. The main purpose of this study is to determine the motivations of underwater diving. More specifically, to determine the motivational factors that “push” and “pull” underwater divers and whether these factors change in accordance with demographic features and experience status are sub purposes of this study. The data required for the study was collected from divers who are members of diving centers and their Instagram accounts via online questionnaire in Turkey. As a result of the analysis of data obtained from a total of 261 divers, it has been determined that the most important “push” motivation factor is the diving experience, while “core diving features” is the most important “pull” motivation factor. Moreover, any motivation factor that pulled divers to dive had not a significant difference according to demographic and experiential characteristics, while only the prestige and personal success motivation, as a pushed factor, had a significant difference according to age and monthly income in demographic characteristics. In this direction, suggestions have been offered for destinations and the managers of diving centers.
