Determination of the Holocene sedimentery succession of the eastern part of the gulf of Saros by high resolution seismic

This study was held on the Gulf of Saros, which located on the North Anatolian Fault Zone, is a tectonically active region. The aim of this study to present the character and distrubition of the sedimentary deposits at the eastern part of the Gulf of Saros by using seismic stratigraphical methods. Previous studies that characterize the interior of the gulf were not present sufficient data to determine the character of the sedimatery deposits of the inner part of the gulf. About 300 km seismic data were acquired by small boat at the inner side of the gulf during the 15- day. The data were interpreted in the sense of seismic stratigraphical properties of the gulf. 5 units were defined according to internal reflection differences and depositional conditions and named as U1a, U1b, U1c, U1d, U2. The main factor of the gulf, which controls depositional system, is North Anatolian Fault Zone. The northern shelf of the bay was affected by the rivers during the high-stand to low-stand period whereas the southern shelf was aerially exposed
