Günümüzde işletmelerin faaliyet gösterdikleri alanlarda başarılı olmaları ve yeni pazarlara ulaşmaları büyük ölçüde; bilişim sistemleri (BS) ve teknolojilerini etkili ve verimli bir şekilde kullanmalarına bağlıdır. İşletmelerin BS kullanmalarının temel nedenleri; işletme performansı için en önemli ölçütlerinden biri olan verimlilikte artış sağlamak, müşterilere daha kaliteli mal ve hizmet sunmak, maliyetleri en aza indirmek, yeni teknolojik ürünler geliştirmek ve işletmenin rekabet gücünü artırmaktır. Bu çalışmada küresel rekabet ortamında; işletmelerin vazgeçilmez bir unsuru haline gelen BS ve teknolojilerinin tanımı ve kapsamı üzerinde durulmuş, BS uygulamalarının işletme performansı üzerindeki etkileri incelenerek, bilgi verilmeye çalışılmıştır

At the present time the success of operations in the branches in which they operate and their chances to reach new markets depend, to a large extent, on their using information systems (IS) and technologies effectively. The main reasons for the operations’ using IS are to increase productivity which is one of the most important criteria for business performance, to offer customers goods and services of better quality, to minimize costs, to develop new technological products and to increase the competitive capacity of the operation. This study introduces the definitions and content of IS and technologies that are the indispensable components of operations in a global competition environment.
